Owners Geoff and Alberto began their business by supplying classic style furniture and luxurious furnishings to country house hotels. They opened Roomings two years ago, so now we can enjoy their unique products in our own homes.
Roomings really does have a timeless appeal. The furniture is beautifully designed, well-made and much of it is unique, made to Geoff and Alberto’s original designs from Brazilian or Indonesian hardwood that’s been sourced with environmental consideration. You can even specify your own requirements and, as furniture is made to order, you can request a particular size to fit your own home.
The beds have all been tailor-made to original designs, and many other pieces too. “Many of our designs have connections to the 19th and 20th centuries, but all are modern variants of traditional styles, so that it fits seamlessly into a modern environment,” says Geoff. “We’ve removed some of the Victorian frills and made a concession to 21st-century tastes.” The furniture and fabrics are all extremely elegant, and a visit to the shop – which is much bigger than you would think at first glance as there’s a rambling upstairs – feels a little like a trip to a country property. The room-sets are beautiful and inspiring: a table laid for a glamorous dinner party; a grand, wooden bed plump and inviting with pillows. There’s bed linen, crockery, cushions, framed pictures, lighting, a tailor-made curtain service and tassels fit for a palace.
And last but not least, whether you’re window shopping or on the look-out for something in particular, Geoff and Alberto provide a friendly and personal service. They do everything themselves, including serving customers and giving advice. If you’re looking for an elegant piece of furniture or accessory at a reasonable price, and a thoroughly enjoyable shopping experience to-boot, pop into Roomings.
